Penn's Common in Newtown reserved approximately four acres of land around the creek for common use. The Common was subdivided and lots were sold to raise revenue for the town. A full account of the subdivision and land sales can be found in The Newtown Commons Book by Norman Swayne. The book is available at the Newtown Historic Association. One section of the Common remains as public land today at the foot of Greene Street.
